Carol Thistlethwaite

From her earliest memories, Carol has enjoyed writing but it wasn't until 2003 that she decided to study writing seriously and subsequently gained an MA (distinction) in Writing Studies. Her other passions are walking and bird watching. from the field book is Carol's first individual collection and is a culmination of these interests.

Carol used to work for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and now works at Lancashire College as a creative writing and learning support tutor.

She has published three books for adults who are learning to read (Avanti 2006) and her poems have appeared in many small press anthologies and magazines. She has read on Radio Lancashire and Radio Merseyside and is the resident reviewer for Carillon.

How do you get 'the jizz' on birds? The language of guidebooks is only a start; the language of poetry takes us further and especially when it's as crafted and innovative as the poetry of Carol Thistlethwaite. This is a collection that invites you into a particular world and does so with great success; a world of keen observation where language is achingly precise and lucid, pushed to the boundaries of observation. Here sound and shape combine to allow the reader 'that wordless leap', the moment of epiphany 'to recognition/jizz'. Jan Fortune-Wood Cinnamon Press/Envoi editor
